Presbyopia

Presbyopia

Presbyopia, or "old eye", is a condition that is part of the natural aging process of the eye.  It is the loss of the ability to focus on near objects, such as books, due to the loss of elasticity of the lens in the eye.  It usually begins between age 45 and 50.

Above is shown diagrams of the effects of presbyopia.

This is a simple animation of the effects of presbyopia.

Presbyopia normally is easily fixed with reading glasses or bifocals.  There are also surgical options which are available.  Contact lenses can be bifocal, multifocal or worn to achieve monovision.
